This beautiful island of Grand Canaria never stopped surprising us. With sun-kissed beaches, popcorn sand, breathtaking landscapes, and warm island hospitality, this location is the perfect place for your first couples getaway with your significant other. In this blog, I will break down everything we did, from our couples' getaway to this charming Canary Island gem.

Day 1: Arriving in Paradise

Our adventure began at Fuerteventura Airport, where we picked up our rental car from Cicar Canary Islands Car. No big deposit is required, and the 30 euros per day for our cute little Fiat car was a budget-friendly choice. Though, in retrospect, a bigger car might have been more suitable for some of our explorations.

After a short drive, we arrived at our delightful accommodation, the Cotillo Lagoons Apartment. With access to a perfect little beach just steps away, it felt like our own private haven. We took advantage of the convenience and headed to the nearby supermarket to stock up on groceries and snacks. The rest of the day was spent soaking up the sun and sea, followed by a cozy evening of cooking at home.

Day 2: Exploring Majestic Beaches and Charming Corralejo

Waking up to the sound of waves, we woke up to a breakfast-in-bed moment with our own croissants and tea before setting off to explore the northern part of the island. Our first stop was the Popcorn sand beach, which wasn't as picturesque as we had hoped. However, we did find a little off-the-beaten-path drive that rewarded us with the discovery of a secluded natural beach, an absolute gem(that also had some cute little popcorn sand for a picture).

We then ventured to Corralejo, the vibrant tourist hub of Fuerteventura, but found our hearts longing for the tranquility of our beloved El Cotillo beach. After a day of sun and sand, we enjoyed a delightful dinner at Restaurante Mahoh, savoring the local flavors.

Day 3: A Day in Paradise - Corralejo Dunes National Park

Our last full day on the island was dedicated to exploring the captivating Corralejo Dunes National Park.

The sandy beach with clear waters left us mesmerized. We reveled in the beauty of the nude-friendly beach, embracing the liberating spirit of Spain. As the day passed, we returned to our comfortable apartment to relax, cook a late lunch, and bask in the joy of our private little beach.

The evening was set for a memorable dining experience at La Vaca Azul, where we discovered the best seafood Fuerteventura had to offer (like, really, THE BEST seafood I have ever had in my life. please get the mussels).

Day 4: Cherishing the Last Moments

On our final day in Fuerteventura, we couldn't resist spending a few more hours at our private beach, savoring every moment before we had to check out at noon. After bidding farewell to our little haven, we hopped into our trusty Fiat and ventured to another delightful lunch spot called Kikere Pollos al Carbón, a hidden gem known for its mouthwatering bbq chicken dishes.

With our hearts and bellies full, it was time to return to the airport, bid farewell to our beloved rental car, and board our flight back home.

Our romantic getaway to Fuerteventura was nothing short of magical.
